Yoga as we know it today as “modern-day yoga” a posture-based physical fitness, stress-reliever, and relaxation exercise, however, it is much more than that in Indian traditions; it has a meditative and spiritual core that is more often combined or related to the religious side of Hinduism. Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India. Yoga is one of the six Āstika schools of Hindu philosophical traditions.


The word 'Yoga' is derived from the Sanskrit root 'Yuj', meaning 'to join' or 'to yoke' or 'to unite'. The first-ever sign of the word yoga comes from the Rig-Veda written by Vyasa who described the meaning of the word yoga as samādhi (concentration).

Often called the Father of yoga “Sage Patanjali introduced yoga as a practice to the world as written in his legendary Yoga sutra compiling 195 sutras on yoga together. The yoga as we see it today is being adapted, updated & introduced by many other yoga teachers over the time but the core of it all remains the same as that of yoga sutra, In the western world, yoga gained prominence in the late 19th century after being first introduced by Swami Vivekananda addressing to first world parliament of religions in Chicago.
